Its primary function is to crush hot sinter cakes into manageable particle sizes. This ensures smooth material flow to the cooler and subsequent handling systems.
Single roll crushers operate using a slow-rotating, toothed crushing roll in combination with a stationary grate plate. Hot sintered cakes discharged from the sintering machine flow onto the grate plate through a chute.
As the roll rotates, the crushing teeth apply controlled compressive and shearing forces, breaking the material against the grate plate. Particles that meet the required size pass through the grate openings, while oversized material remains in the crushing zone for further reduction. The crushed product—typically below 150 mm—is then discharged through a chute and conveyed to the cooling system or downstream equipment.
This simple and robust crushing mechanism ensures consistent product size and reliable operation under demanding sinter plant conditions.
